The Hobbit movies are a prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy. There are three movies. They are “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”, “There and Back Again” and a last movie still in production. There will be lots of important actor and actresses on movie. Martin Freeman will be Bilbo Baggins. When Martin Freeman went to agreement with Peter Jackson in 2010, BBC declined agreement because of Sherlock series cast. Then Freeman, Jackson and BBC made an agreement.
Ian Holm will be old Bilbo Baggins. Director Guillermo del Toro chose Ian Holm as Bilbo Baggins but there were some problems about his cast. Some magazines claimed that Ian Holm will be narrator. Peter Jackson confirmed that they agreed with Ian Holm but no more information is available in 22 April 2011.
Ian McKellen will be Gandalf the Grey like Lord of the Rings trilogy. He will be on first two movies of series. There were some rumors about problems between Ian McKellen and producer but McKellen write to his website that “happy to say I start filming in Wellington on 21 February 2011”.
Hugo Weaving will be Elrond. Hugo Weaving was also Elrond on The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Producer still didn’t confirm that Hugo Weaving will be Elrond but there are lots of magazine claims about it.
Cate Blanchett will be Galadriel. Galadriel is co-ruler of Lothlórien and wife of Lord Celeborn. She was also starring on The Lord of the Rings film trilogy but there’s no appearance of her character on The Hobbit book. Jackson gave Cate Blanchett and said she’s the favorite actress of him.
Elijah Wood will be Frodo Baggins. He will be starred on first two movies. Frodo Baggins is not a character appeared in The Hobbit because he wasn’t born on story’s time. So Peter Jackson will create some time play for Frodo Baggins.
Orlando Bloom will be Legolas again. Legolas is the Elven Prince of Mirkwood. Bloom announced a contract between he and Jackson on 25 April 2011 but Jackson confirmed it on 27 May 2011.
Star of Lost, Evangeline Lilly is one of the surprising names in The Hobbit cast. She will be Tauriel, a female elf from Mirkwood.
Movie’s other surprise is its recording format. Movie is recording on 48 FPS and it’s the first movie recorded on this FPS level. Since 1920s, all movies are recording on 24 FPS. Jackson announced 48 FPS firstly on his Facebook page. Special cameras are used for filming. 48 FPS decision created lots of reaction before film went into theatres. After controversies, Jackson decided to release a 24 FPS standard version of movie for non-digital theatres. First movie will be released on 14 December 2012 and second movie will be released on 13 December 2013.
